The successful accomplishment of TMA's objectives of attaining profitability and seeking to improve efficiencies and effectiveness, expand activities and market-share, as well as reduce fixed and variable costs, will certainly depend on our ability to strategically position the airline for optimal potential gains using the following basic business and managerial concepts:

A - Future Strategy

Synergy:

Seeking relationships with other corporations active in the fields of aviation, transportation, freight / cargo movements and other related business, resulting in important value-added benefits to all concerned.

Complementary Fields:

Concentrating on niche activities where TMA can develop comparative advantages and competitiveness, while cooperating with companies having similar characteristics in other areas.

Economies of Scale:

Amortizing fixed costs and expenses over a range of additional activities, to have several profit-centers depending on same cost center, for an efficient allocation of resources and improved effectiveness, leading to better profitability.

Integration (Horizontal and Vertical):

Developing TMA's activities to multiply value-added markups, for a higher margin of profitability and better quality controls. For instance, activities such as Parcel & Mail Courier, Time-Definite Airfreight Products, Door-to-Door services and Handling activities can lead to Vertical Integration, while Air Taxi services, Private Jets, Passenger Charters and Training activities can lead to Horizontal Integration.

Diversification:

Expanding company's activities to areas not depending on the same economic cycle or supply/demand relationship, namely Airport Management Services and Free Zones, in order to diversify sources of revenue.

B - Future Action Steps

In Finance:

To Modernize TMA's Fleet by acquiring new types of aircraft according to their suitability to the company's planned expansion in operations, taking into account required capacity, range and operating efficiency, namely:

  • Medium-haul aircraft with a capacity of around 40-60 tons to replace the current aging B707s
  • Short-haul small aircraft in the 5-10 tons capacity range, for feeder and parcel operations.

To apply Strict Financial Management and Controls that will lead to increasing revenues and improving operating margins, while further reducing fixed and variable expenses.

In Operations & Marketing:

To pursue TMA's plans to Expand the Network of operations, and Develop the Charter & Lease activities to include further direct destinations especially in Europe and Africa, as well as to re-instate the company's South East Asian operations to India and Pakistan at a first stage, and later on to Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo in Japan.

To diversify the company's activities towards complementary fields, including Handling and Ground services offered to airlines operating to Beirut International Airport, Maintenance services, Passenger operations, Courier services, Air taxi and others.

To Ensure a wider coverage of the international markets through Interline Agreements with other carriers, and through Alliances and Commercial Cooperation with strategic operating partners in the transport field to achieve vertical and horizontal integration and synergies.

To Enhance the quality level of services offered by giving utmost care to each phase of the transport operation, from proper allocation of space, to inland transport into TMA's regional hubs, cargo handling, setting time-frames for delivery and after-sales services.

To market TMA's activities and services via the Internet, taking full advantage of Globalization and the International Trade Liberalization.

In Automation:

To Develop the company's Information Technology systems in order to adapt to the various changes caused by Globalization, and to take full advantage of the existing opportunities.

To implement an effective Management Information System, for improved external communications with clients, and to offer On-Line services, especially Electronic Booking and Document Generation, with the possibility of Tracking and Tracing Shipments.

In Management & Human Resources:

To develop Human Resources through effective training programs to new methodologies including management skills, decision making and proper implementation, acting by objectives and planning ahead and alternative planning, to cope efficiently with sudden and unexpected changes.

To encourage Team Spirit and Employee Cooperation on all levels, in order to increase individual productivity and efficiency.
