Trans Mediterranean Airways (TMA) is based at Beirut International Airport (BIA) as the only Lebanese all-cargo carrier. Throughout a long-standing history, stretching over more than 48 years of professional achievements in the cargo business, TMA played an active role in servicing and developing the international trade.

Opening of the first office in North America

Entering the jet-age, TMA leased its first B707-320C freighter

TMA inaugurated its Far East scheduled services
TMA fleet consisted of 2 DC4, 6 DC6, 2 CL-44 and 1 B707-320C

1968 ...............

TMA established the longest scheduled air cargo route in the world, linking the United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East, India, South-East Asia and the Far East

1971 ...............

TMA purchased its first B707-320C, and inaugurated its round the world all cargo scheduled service

1976 ...............

Addition of 2 B747 freighters to the company's B707 fleet

1985 ...............

Temporary suspension of operations as a result of the Lebanese civil war

1986 ...............

Re-launch of TMA operations back from Beirut

1993 ...............

Change of ownership to the current shareholders

1996 ...............

In November, TMA resolved to increase its capital to L.L.60 billion (US$40 million), and appointed a new Chairman and President. A new restructuring plan was initiated to restore the company's leading role in the international airfreight market

1998 ...............

TMA launched its new logo, reflecting the new image of the restructured Company and inaugurated its first flight to Shanghai, to become the first Arab airline to operate a scheduled service to this important Chinese city. TMA also obtained the ISO 9002 certificate for Quality in services for the totality of its activities and operations.

1999 ...............

TMA was ranked by IATA among the Top 5 Airlines in the world in Cargo Load Factor.

Pioneering Achievements

After its establishment in 1953, TMA grew rapidly to become one of the world's major cargo airlines with the largest international all cargo network linking major cities in the five continents, and thus became:

All cargo airline in the Middle East.

Airline with scheduled cargo service linking Europe and the Far East.

Airline offering Round-the-World all cargo service, in East and West bound directions.

Air services in the Arab World linking USA with Middle East.

TMA is an active member of IATA (The International Air Transport Association) especially in cargo activities and committees, and is a founding member of AACO (The Arab Air Carriers Organization).
